Overview

Here you stay in a green and pleasant valley of real countryside, where you’ll find horses and butterflies as well as very good rural restaurants.

It’s a far cry from the urbanized coast and yet sandy beaches and top golf are just 15 minutes down the road.

Security gates open to a completely private estate of mature gardens, which spread out to lily ponds by a grove of trees and sitting areas.

The surrounding of green hills makes the setting feel especially intimate and hidden away.

RD69 looks and feels like a proper holiday villa. The kind of place you can shake off your cares and simply enjoy yourselves.

You’ll find oceans of space, an inviting swimming pool and a terrace that wraps round the whole house before opening to the gardens.

Here you can play at volleyball or badminton, or sit out in the shade of trees over by the lily pond.

Almost the entire many-windowed upper ground floor (the level you enter to from parking) is given over to a high-ceilinged main room with a central fireplace. It’s big enough to scatter eight sofas around and still have plenty of room for a dining area.

The dining area (there's an antique table to seat everyone comfortably) continues round to a long, fully equipped kitchen and this opens very practically to a bench with seating for eight.

There are two bedrooms and a bathroom that make up the fourth side of the same floor.

Windows on all sides open wide to let through fresh, clean air and give you views over the gardens.

Experience has shown that thanks to the design (windows allowing ventilation) very often the air con isn’t necessary, and neither is pool heating from late spring to autumn.

We think separating out the electricity charge is a fair means of keeping the accommodation price down, as this way you only pay for the electricity you use.

Internal stairs go down to a hallway on the lower floor and four more bedrooms.

All four bedrooms have french windows out to the terrace that circles the villa. Out here om the terrace is one of the property's highlights: the outdoor jacuzzi hot tub. If you can bring yourself to climb out, there's a furnished drinks area with bar and fridge: but maybe someone will be good enough to bring you a cold drink to the tub?

Just below the villa, a few steps down, is the swimming pool.

The irregular shape pool is heatable outside summer months. There are steps leading down into the water.

The poolside is skirted by a line-up of fruit trees arranged like cheerleaders and beyond them lie lawns and gardens that spread out over twelve acres. They are healthy, lush gardens with mature trees and the lawns are massive.

A walkway past the lily pond brings you to a spot for those totally quiet moments when you just want to sit and do nothing.

You’re on a very extensive estate here, to which the secure entrance is shared by just two other and completely separate residences. One belongs to the owners, who you won’t see. Their house, facing the other way onto their own gardens, can just be made out through the trees.

The other resident is the English-speaking caretaker for RD69, very friendly, very discretely apart, and simply on hand if you need him.

Your villa, pool and gardens are perfectly private and you’re not overlooked.

The Casares valley location is one we especially liked for its proximity to the sea. Beaches are an easy 15-minute drive and along the same country road going towards Casares village, you have a choice of very good restaurants with terraces.

We’ll send you our tips and recommendations for Casares as one of your holiday documents.

Elaine | September | 2024

Graham is a fantastic host, very helpful yet not intrusive. The gardens are beautiful as is the pool and there are lots of games available such as table tennis, badminton etc. The kitchen isn't huge but is well equipped though possibly there should be two dishwashers as the villa can house large groups. Just as an fyi, the track to the villa is bumpy and a little way from the main road. Also, paying for the electricity as a separate cost is unusual and a bit of a deterrent, but apart from this, I can understand why guests return year after year."

David | August | 2022

We loved the location of the villa, but we thought the condition of the track from the road to the villa itself was very poor in places and not what we expected. The gardens surrounding the villa are exceptional and beautifully kept by the gardener and Graham - who we found to be very helpful at all times. We felt the villa is in need of a refurb and the equipment in it needs updating and improving. Specifically, the pool has a number of tiles missing, the bar area table is in poor condition, with warped tops and the the chair cushions need replacing. Inside the villa the bannister to the lower floor is insecure. The kitchen needs to be updated and considering the number of people the villa can accommodate a double oven and a double ‘American sized’ fridge are essential. General equipment in the kitchen also needs to be improved - the coffee percolator/machine is nowhere near big enough. Many of the cups and bases of wine glasses were chipped and need replacing. The bath in the main downstairs bathroom was chipped in several places, which was disappointing. Finally the towels that were supplied for the bathrooms were very hard and unpleasant to use. As a family we have significant experience in hiring large sized properties in Spain (in particular on the Costa del Sol) and the South of France and these comments are based on these experiences and are positively made with the hope that they help the property owner understand a clients perspective. Should the refurbishments/upgrades be made then we would no hesitation in returning to Tierra Buena, which overall we enjoyed."

Rustical Update

The property manager confirmed by the end of August that the fridge which stopped working has been replaced; there are other fridges in this property. The bar table was replaced by early September (2022). The few tiles missing in the small pool are replaced when the Summer comes to an end and the pool can be emptied, he claims.

The manager also says in September 2022 he checked kitchenware and replaced anything was neccessary. He also said they have now updated the coffee making systems, you can have Italian style coffee using our coffee percolators, which can make up to 18 cups of coffee in one time, or you can have American style coffee using our drip filter machine, it makes 6 cups at a time but we have two large thermos jugs which can be used to keep the coffee piping hot whilst making more, and now we also have a L'Or barrister style coffee machine, which uses L'Or capsules, this should be noted on the website as we provide the first packet in the welcome pack but quite often clients ask what brand the machine is for when buying more, we also have, for your information, two toasters, two microwaves, two kettles, juicers, blenders and various other kitchen items.

The Bannister has been secured and is now fine with no movement. They say they have also repaired the bath enamel chips

The rural track to this property (and others in this valley) is maintained by the Town Hall and again we are informed that in September 2022 a machine passed over the track to the villa and is in better state now.

Clare | July | 2022

We thought the setting and gardens at the villa were spectacular and found the huge amount of air conditioned indoor space during the hottest time of the day very welcome. The caretaker was lovely and responded promptly and helpfully to all requests for help. The villa was clean and airy, with plenty of places for our party of 10 to gather together or find a bit of peace alone at times. The only improvements which we could suggest would be that the electrics (such as the pool heating) be checked in advance before guests arrival, and in the quality of the kitchen equipment provided. Having said that we had a really lovely holiday."

The place is lovely, the only downsides are that there is very little lighting in the BBQ area so can't be used a night. The noise the beds make, particularly the large double bed on the ground floor and the fact there is no toilet in the pool area."

Rustical Update

We are informed that from March 2021 the barbecue area has lighting. Also from early 2022 all mattresses are new and excellent quality as informed by property manager (mattresses brand: Tetrad)

We were a party of ten - four children aged 5-10 and 6 adults. this is a holiday we do every year at autumn half term and we have been to many villas from Turkey to the Canary Islands but i think this was the favourite. it was the first time we have not chosen a "beach" villa and as the weather at this time of year can be unpredictable it was an excellent choice. The heated pool kept the childen entertained all day and the huge gardens were perfect for many games, hide and seek, a treasure hunt and relay races. we visited the beach once and were disappointed. End of season, no buckets and spades and just rather dreary although Estepona market kept us entertained on the wettest day. in the evening there were wonderful walks in the hillside and a day spent driving up to Ronda was a highlight. We didnt eat out as much as usual but were perfectlyhappy to eat in the wonderfully well equipped living area with 9 sofas - almost one each ! the villa was comfortable without being precious and Graham was always on hand to help out when we needed him. The sunbathing turtles were a memorable wildlife experience along with the vultures circling."

RD69 is a superb Villa and we thoroughly enjoyed using it as did the rest of my family. Graham the caretaker was amazingly helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The gardens are fabulous kept beautifully. Just some minor issues/suggestions: The shared bathroom shower curtain was not very effective and showering was difficult without getting water everywhere We thought maybe a small stock of nice plastic wine glasses to use by the pool for safety reasons. We would thoroughly recommend this Villa for large groups and especially families/"

Jacqui | September | 2015

The villa was beautiful and was just as it looked in the photos if not better. The grounds were lovely and the setting was very peaceful with stunning scenery. We all loved our time there and a few in our group including ourselves are keen to go back. Graham, the caretaker of the property was very helpful and always on hand if required without being obtrusive. The only points that may affect other holidaymakers from not choosing this property that we can think of are: It may not suit people with mobility problems as there are several different levels all of which have to be accessed via stairs People with dogs or who are scared of dogs may be put off by the guard dogs but we had no problem at all with them and Graham told us about them straight away and reassured us that they were in a secure area Some people might find the road to the property a bit nerve wracking but once you have done it once it is fine. Given the property's location a car is a must. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our time there and would recommend it to others."

Rustical Update

It is correct that the dogs are kept in a secured area and they are, in any case, friendly and well behaved.

We have visited the property on a number of occasions and found the rural track ordinary and in good condition.

Had a great time thanks. A beautiful property and extremely well organised on your part. The only slight criticism is maybe the hard mattress's but maybe that's subjective? We were a small group but could not see how you could cook for large numbers with a normal domestic size cooker. Many thanks Gary"

Rob | October | 2014

We had an amazing holiday! Our villa and its setting was beautiful. The pre-holiday information from Rustical Travel was great and gave exact instructions of how to get to the property and to arrange to meet the caretaker. The villa itself was huge and well suited to a group holiday. The bedrooms are nicely spaced out and the living area was great for relaxing and chatting. We really took advantage of the pool and the hot tub which provided hours of entertainment. Graham the caretaker met us when we arrived and was on hand throughout our stay when we needed him. We had a couple of comments for the villas owners - the bathrooms lack hooks to hang up towels to dry, the kitchen could do with some better knives and we didn't like the plastic plants and flowers - the inside of the villa is lovely but spoilt by the cheap looking plants. We would certainly use Rustical Travel again and might even go back to the villa sometime."

We had a great time at the Villa near Casares. A beautiful peaceful setting. Ideal for an extended family group - with a massive living area - and vast beautifully kept grounds. We appreciated the friendly welcome and help from laid back Aussie Graham. Good restaurants just up the road. The coast and Ronda within easy reach. Plus a choice of airports. Recommended as a great place for a large family get together."
