Overview

Waking up to lake views is always a wonder, and this sweet waterside retreat may not have centuries of history beneath its belt, but the design is refreshingly uncomplicated, and the surroundings are more than compelling.

Some say that new builds can be soulless, so does this cottage fall into the category of being all PVC and white walls? No, it's modern, comfortable, and built traditionally, meaning the sunlight streams in. Not that it matters; in beautiful surroundings, you won’t want to hide inside.

The private grounds sweep down to rest beside the sprawling lake (which serves as a reservoir, so the water level can fluctuate), where a diving platform invites curious swimmers out to jump. For those guests who dream of a holiday where you spend your days tasting tapas on the shore, splashing and swimming, and reading on a blanket in the sun – this cottage perfectly presents that dream.

Nestled in the first wrinkles in the foothills of the Pyrenees, the area of Baronia de Rialb is a smorgasbord of rolling fields, romantic villages, rambling rivers, and thick forests.

Only fifteen minutes from your door, you will find the town of Ponts, with a handful of lovely restaurants and all the amenities you need.

A small country lane passes above the house, making access to town easy and simple. Even though this quiet country lane glimpses part of the pool area, the house still feels immersed in good privacy.

Back up the stone steps and into the villa, you will find three well-presented bedrooms with sliding windows, pretty porches to rest on, and clean, comfortable beds.

We tested the beds, and although they weren´t king-size, they felt comfy, and we imagined they would feel most welcome after a day of activity on the lake.

Everything is clean and uncluttered, and with all the mod cons like Wi-Fi and air conditioning thrown in, you really couldn’t want anything more.

For those days when you don’t want to dip in the lake, there is a well-sized pool with even night lighting for when you fancy a midnight swim.

The BBQ area and oversized table ensure that feasting with sunset views is always possible.

After spending time sipping wine on the porch and wandering through the meadows down to the shore, - we knew this was the perfect property for families seeking a simple lakeside break in the golden green bliss of the earliest folds of the Pyrenees.

Karen | July | 2024

The villa was a beautiful place to stay, really well-equipped, and a real home from home. The owners have thought of everything, inside and outside. There is shade around the pool and over the parking area, as well as a BBQ on the terrace. The lakeside views are amazing. It feels really remote and the perfect place to get away from everything, but only a 15-minute drive to Ponts. A perfect place. Thank you!"

Emma | July | 2022

The villa was lovely and in a beautiful and spectacular location. Very quiet, which was what we wanted. The pool was great and afforded hours of entertainment, including at night, and the outside cooking and eating areas are well thought out, comfortable and have excellent views. The only downside was the very depleted lake, meaning that swimming in it, though possible, was not tempting, as it was very hot and would have meant a fairly long walk to get there, with no shade when you come out. Our hosts were charming, kind and helpful, as were Rustical Travel."

We stayed at CA38 for 1 week from 4th September and we had a wonderful family holiday. The villa is remote, and offers peace and tranquility for a relaxing time. It has been renovated to a high standard, and there are lots of places to eat, inside, on the porch and on a very large table adjacent to 2 brick barbecues. The barbecues are superb, and we used them frequently. The beds are comfortable and showers have good pressure. The kitchen has just about everything you need, but the owner/s need to consider providing a greater range of cooking utensils eg slotted spoons, bread knife, and sharper knives. It would also be worth providing plastic plates and cups for outdoor use. The pool is excellent and provides a welcome respite from the heat of the day. Sun beds and sun loungers are comfortable and in good condition. Table tennis is available outside on a concrete table. The condition of the bats and balls could be improved. Access to the internet was difficult, at times impossible, throughout our stay. In order to manage expectations, this should have been made known. It is worth noting that during peak summer the water level in the lake can be low...... so much so that we were disappointed that we could’t rent kayaks or hire a boat. Lake swimming from the house was also not possible with the pontoon sitting up on the dry river bed! Despite this, we really did have a fabulous time at CA38 and have no hesitation in recommending it. Finally, we thought the booking arrangements were handled exceptionally well by Rustical Travel, especially the information on directions to the property."

Rustical Update

We have informed the property managers, who confirmed they will consider improving the kitchen equipment and providing plastic plates for outdoor area. The bats and balls of the table tennis will be replaced. The WiFi is advertised as limited due to rural location, despite many attempts to improve the Internet signal.

Excellent property and just what we were looking for. Its "away from it all" alright, but just what we needed. Great views, very Well equipped and comfortable. The management was very unobtrusive. which again is just what we like. This gets top marks from us. Rustical's booking service was NOT at its best this time around. It needs to get its act together and appreciate that threatening to "blacklist" regular customers is not a sensible option for a firm in a very competitive market. Not high marks from us at all, on this aspect."

As usual, our holiday with Rustical Travel was perfect! The finca was in such a beautiful location and it was immaculate. Pilar and Josep were very kind and helpful - despite speaking no English, they were very organised and everything was so clean and tidy. The pool was sparkling clean and we had all the facilities we needed. We didn't go far; just a few visits to Ponts for the supermarket and bars/restaurants. The rest of the time we had some fabulous meals using the barbeque. You could not fault the location and views - it was idyllic. The younger adults found the natural pools to swim in (deserted) and we did one kayak session round the corner. All in all, it was a truly memorable, happy holiday. The Catalan people are so friendly and it was great to see absolutely no other British tourists! We have had so many Rustical Travel holidays and they have not let us down yet. I can heartily recommend their services."

We spent a lovely week at the Finca, The weather was stormy bu the temperature was warm/hot. Watching a thunderstorm approach form afar was dramatic. Waking up in the morning and swimming across the lake was a definite highpoint. Despite it being early in the season, the water was surprisingly warm (warmer than the pool) once you were swimming. Sitting outside on the veranda to have our melas was another plus, Ponts is a lovely village to have as our food stop with multiple small supermarkets and small independents. We made excursions such as to Forat do Buli and Agramunt amongst others. We fully enjoyed our short sojourn to the finca and the owner was very welcoming and helpful."

What a beautiful place! The house is well designed and in a stunning location. It had everything we needed (although a teapot and some nicer mugs would be a good addition). It's so nice to find cleaning stuff there, as well as washing powder- thank you. Even pool towels provided which helps with packing! The location suited us perfectly, but it really is very isolated. It's a ten minute drive to shops and restaurants, along a windy road. We didn't find much to do - the leaflets in the house weren't that useful, but we were happy doing very little! A bit more local info would be good eg opening times of restaurants, market day (weds) etc but I know it's a new property. We would definitely return and recommend this house. Thank you."

Rustical Update

We have passed to the property managers the suggestions about a teapot, mugs, and more local information being available at the property.

Overall the property was fantastic and the landlords were great. We had a very good vacation. Two minor issues: we need for dietary reasons to bake our own bread, and the absence of an oven was not clear to us up front. It was quite problematic for us. Also there is a very bad smell on the property that we discussed with the owners of the kayak place nearby; apparently it's the result of fertilizing and is a problem all over the lake."

Rustical Update

The property manager informed us that the smell was due to fertilizing the fields in the area, but he said it is not a recurrent smell. Additionally, there wasn't an oven in this property, and thus it was not published in the facilities section. Fortunately, an oven was added to the equipment in July 2018.

We had the pleasure to spend a 2 weeks holiday in July with a family of 5. This has been one of our best holiday experiences so far ! The house is spacious, kept very clean, and with airco in about every room, very welcome with a sunny 35 degrees. As the house has 2 large terraces, also there, we found the necessary coolness, during eating and playing. You wake up with an overwhelming postcard view of the lake (just a few steps down from the house) and the surrounding mountains, and refresh in the pool, which is cleaned by an elderly couple every 3 days. They don’t speak a word of English, but that’s compensated by their fantastic friendliness. Google translate does the rest. It is a very silent area. You only hear the birds sing and the splashing water when fish jump up in the lake. Rush hour here means 2 cars passing in the morning (the only ones for the whole day). We always took dinner at the stone table, near 2 (big) barbecues. In the village of Ponts, you find everything you need, and if you really want to go for shopping, Lleida and Andorra aren’t far off. One can also rent a kayak or a motorboat nearby to explore the lake and its beautiful nature around, to swim or to fish. We can only fully recommend this property ! Also, it is worth noting that Rustical Travel has informed us well beforehand and very clear with the necessary things to know and crystal clear driving directions. Just top ! We 'll be back..."
