Overview

Light and airy, a symphony in whites, this is the glamourous side of Gaucin. The south-facing apartment gives you plenty of modernist comfort in the popular Ronda mountain village.

The views are far and wide, due south to the Rock of Gibraltar and beyond, as far as the Rif Mountains over the sea in Morocco.

Above the apartment is a sparkling, shared pool, and 30 minutes away, at the end of a snaking country road, lies the Mediterranean.

It is one of six ritzily designed holiday apartments occupying a small, discretely new building.

The apartment is spacious and well-appointed, light and relaxing.

Floor-to-ceiling double-glazed French windows flood the living space with light and slide open to a furnished terrace that invites serious repose.

From here, the view ranges around Gaucin’s Eagle Castle on the left, past palm trees, and over the village and the tree-lined valley.

In the distance is Gibraltar and, farther still, the mountains of Morocco. The castle is particularly striking when illumined at night.

Gaucin’s not that big, so restaurants are always within walking distance.

The three bedrooms are good-sized. Their en suite bathrooms have underfloor heating and natural illumination. Both double beds are king-size. Each bedroom has its own attractiveness, but the double-bedded room on the first floor, with a larger bathroom, private terrace, and views to die for, may be considered the master bedroom.

An external rear staircase leads to a stepped, chlorine-free swimming pool with sun loungers. The pool is shared with the other apartments in the private building, although we didn’t see any other residents on our visits. There is also a shower and WC.

On the ground level is a private garage where you can leave the car—a real bonus in Gaucin, where the one-way system can sometimes make you go in circles looking for a parking space.

It’s much nicer walking around the village, which has recently adopted salamanders as a decorative emblem on façades, enjoying coffee at a café terrace, bougainvillaea and jasmine, and views over the countryside.

Gaucin is a perennial favourite for a good reason: attractive and well-located for day trips to Ronda, Gibraltar, villages like Jimena or Genalguacil, and Mediterranean beaches.

YOUR REVIEWS

Helen | September | 2024

I have had the great pleasure in returning to this apartment many times now and I can honestly say it’s a little gem.Extremely clean with high quality bedding and towels. The house keeper Erika on hand at all time to help if needed. A home from home that is light and airy.Plenty of room for six people to be together or to find a little corner to be by yourself. The added bonus of a lovely pool which is never busy with views across the mountain. After a short stroll from one of the many bars and restaurants in the evening it is so lovely to sit on one of the terraces and look for shooting stars or if you are lucky the international space station.I cannot wait to return next year and breath in that mountain air in a home I love to be in.
