Overview

With gentle views down to the Mediterranean Sea and distant mountains in Morocco accompanied in the summer warmth by a fresh scent of pine, this quality self-catering accommodation is ideal for a relaxing holiday in southern Spain.

One of the newer villas in this hilly area, it was designed with trouble-free holidays in mind. It’s all one floor, well-appointed, bright and nicely decorated in Andalucian style. It’s one of those tastefully put-together villas where everything is as it should be.

The accommodation is spacious and high-ceilinged. The kitchen is neat, practical, properly equipped, open plan with a dining area and sitting room, where floors are tiled in traditional terracotta to suit the climate.

Furnishings are very comfortable and some items are especially well chosen.

This main room opens to a glassed verandah which can slide open to the garden in warm months, which are the norm here, or close in winter to make a sunny conservatory.

This enclosed verandah gives you an equally large second sitting and dining room, beautifully illuminated by natural light. The sliding floor-to-ceiling glass panels give you a perfect view of the gardens.

The three bedrooms are also spacious. They have wardrobe space and each opens directly to the gardens. Bedroom 1 is particularly private, in an adjacent annexe, where it is connected via an internal corridor.

A well-kept lawn spreads out from the house, with the swimming pool to one side. All around are planted shrubs, palms, maritime pines and the rich Mediterranean vegetation of the hills.

These are the last wrinkles of the Ronda mountains before they smooth out at the coast just 15 minutes drive away. From the property you have an excellent view of hills, sea and  the outline of Morocco’s mountains across the water.

The unspoilt sandy beaches just to the west, away from Costa del Sol’s busy spots, are pretty irresistible.

Another main attraction here are the top country restaurants catering to international and Spanish tastes. You have a choice of these just five minutes from the villa. You’ll find English is spoken, but the rural establishments and setting are a far cry from the coastal atmosphere.

In this respect, unlike other properties we have located deeper into Andalucia, this property offers a good compromise between genuine countryside and proximity to the coast.

A few minutes away is Casares, a well preserved, pleasant, and genuine Spanish white village.

The villa is both alluring and practical. The original steep access (where you needed first gear) has recently been supplemented by another track which is longer but much easier. The track joins the road up to Casares or down to the coast. You can park right next to the house.

There are some other residences dotted around the hills, but each is quite separate from the other. Your property has 10,000 m² of grounds, for example, and to the rear there are hills you climb and wander.

Second visit to this lovely house. The location, peace and nice layout work very well for us as a family of four (inc two teenagers). The drive up to the house from the road is steep and narrow in parts but definitely not problematic in a normal basic hire car. Jim was, again, very helpful and there throughout, if needed. Would love to return!"

We absolutely loved our stay in this fabulous house. The location is wonderful if you want to escape the main drag and sit high up with striking views. The house itself is also great and worked very well for us with two teenagers. Plenty of space to have your own zone. Well equipped and tastefully so too. We’d love to come back - thank you Jim for checking in discreetly throughout and clearly being on hand if needed. Great service, as ever, from Rustical Travel."

This property was fantastic, provided for our every need perfectly! Only slight problem was no AC in 40 degree heat, but the fans worked OK and it didn't spoil the experience. Amazing views from the garden, including the Rock of Gibraltar in the distance. The access road is a real adventure though, so pleased I was in my Landrover Discovery. Access not for the faint hearted."

Fantastic Villa. Great for family of 4 plus 2 grandparents. Fabulous facilities kitchen. Stunning location. Pool was just about warm enough (but weather was pretty cool for start of June) Steep, slightly rough track for 1.5km but fine if confident with rural driving and was fine in a decent 2WD (Seat Alhambra). Very easy to get to Casares and San Luis de Sabinillas in 20 mins (closest beach and supermarket). Hosts have clearly worked hard and put a lot of love in to the villa!"

I wish we'd been better warned about the 1500 metre drive up a single track dirt road up to the villa which was slightly terrifying. The villa itself was OK, but a little tired in places. We were left with one toilet roll per guest for our week's stay, one plastic bag for the rubbish no dishwasher tablets, which meant we had to do an early 1 hour drive for supplies. Maybe we've been spoiled in the past by feeling welcomed? Not so here I'm afraid. On the plus side, the villa was clean, the pool very well maintained and the views to Gibraltar, spectacular. Jim was also very helpful delivered a gas canister for the BBQ within a few hours of us calling to let him know it was empty. Of our 3 holidays with Rustical, this villa is the only one we'd not return to and where our expectations weren't quite met."

Rustical Update

The Rustical team spoke to the property owner about this. They claim they have addressed these issues and will make sure more essentials are available at each start of any new stay, so guests can fully and more enjoy their stay.

Our villa specialist does remember a short steep access going downhill from the house to the main road and although he doesn't remember this as challenging we have added in the location description that there is a steep part in the track. Thanks to its raised position the views are amazing though.

The villa was amazing with the most incredible views. We had plenty of space for 6 of us and each room and it’s own private area to sit outside. The gardens are beautiful and it was just so lovely sitting outside by the pool. The pool looks smaller in the photos but it is a perfect size even for a few lengths. It kept us entertained and we miss the views and the pool now we are back in the UK! There are some good restaurants nearby, we loved venta Victoria . The nicest beach is casares costa , around 10-15 minutes drive. I wasn’t a huge fan of Estepona -It was very busy. The highlight for my kids was watching Malaga fc playing a friendly match in marbella! They also said this was the best villa we had ever stayed in. The only negative is the drive to the house. I know you can’t get those views without being high up in the mountains but we were a bit nervous doing the drive especially at night. Our car didnt help as we were given a 9 seater people carrier by the car hire company. The access road might need to be emphasised a bit more in the description of the villa."

Rustical Update

Based on our knowledge of the property and the information provided by the villa owner, we suggest ordinary cars when renting this property (if possible), but not vans or small cars with very little engine power. Our team visited this property with a Toyota Auris without any problems to report.

Property is located on a difficult track and long steep dusty road. This was stressful to us as visitors as we haven’t experienced this before. The villa was beautiful and cool, with everything we needed. Ants were a bit of a problem but quickly resolved by the Agent and cleaner. The agent was on hand for every question and the information on the local area perfect. We had good food in great restaurants and cooked easily in the villa. Some parts of the villa are a little tired but all in all we found it to be a good villa in a beautiful quiet location. Just what we wanted. It was clean which is very important to us."

5 stars all round. Apart from the obvious fact that the location is beautiful, it was clear that everything had been completely thought through. That is what makes the difference. The house was very well equipped, tastefully furnished and well-distributed in terms of space. The Levant wind blowing through the well-kempt gardens was lovely too, and the pool is fab. The guy who met us was friendly and helpful, and always just a whats-app away. Difficult to fault it really, although the drive along the winding path is a bit hairy, until you get used to it. But you can't have the isolation without doing a bit of work, as it were. Taking a 4 x 4 is best, but it's not really a problem. You're only 20 mins from Estepona and the nearby town of Casares is delightful. The grounds of the house are really beautiful and well-groomed. Absolutely loved it. I suspect we might return."

This is an excellent place with a great view. The house is very well decorated and everything is available what you are used to at home. The keyholder is very kind and is willing to answer all your questions, usually within an hour :-) The only negative we could find is that you need a car which can drive up to the hill when you arrive with 4 people and fully packed.(not a big issue, but could be mentioned in the brochure)."

We had THE most amazing time at RD78 for one week mid August 2017. we were two adults with our 3 and 5 year old sons....boys had the best time, so much room and space in the villa, swimming pool deep but è year old had armbands so it wasnt really too much of an issue for us. Well equipped, location was up in the hills, fairly remote but just a little drive away from village with supermarket and some fantastic local restaurants. We managed a few day trips...Ronda and down to the coast a few times. Everything in the villa was spot on for us...lovely spacious bedrooms...ceiling fans, bbq, tv with cable so kids could watch kids channels when too hot outside. Washing machine which we used lots...conservatory area was our favourite as we'd sit every morning with our coffee...have lunch in there and sit drinking wine admiring the gorgeous views in the evening. Rustic travel were amazing...so much info before hand...very acurate description of villa and surrounding area. Highly recommend this villa to anyone who wants to be removed from hustle and bustle and chill, yet close enough to drive to gorgeous areas of Andalucia. Must have a car...we managed with a relatively small hire car with BA. loved this villa and had such a great week...will return for sure. Thank you to Jim who greeted us and gave great tips."

Villa is situated in a very nice location. Very well equiped and Guests can easily forget everyday hussle there and just chill out for a few days. The garden is also well maintained and looked after. We liked the pool so much too! When we were there it was not extremely warm but i can imagine if the temperature goes above 35+ an airconditional would be nice to have. We would definitely recommend this villa to rent to our friends. I would also like to highlight the service we received from Rustica Travel and all the very helpful information prior to our trip! Iain | September | 2015

We visited this villa in September 2015 and thoroughly enjoyed it. With 2 adults and 2 kids (3 and 1) we were looking for somewhere with a pool which was quiet and not too hot that the kids couldn't sleep. This villa provided the perfect solution. The villa is about 1 and 1/2 hours for Malaga airport and probably closer to Gibraltar if you can be bothered with the border crossing. Following the main road you turn off around Esteponas and go up in to the mountains. Eventually you leave the mountain road and follow a track (unbelievably covered by google maps) to the front door. The approach is a bit hairy with steep gravel tracks but we managed no problem in a Ford C-Max. The altitude meant that at this time of year the temperature was about 2-3 degrees Celsius below that at the coast. There was also a breeze which was useful as the villa does not have air conditioning but does have roof fans. The pool was warm enough to use at this time of year (temp was about 26C most days) although not so warm that you would use it to cool down. The kids loved it! The accomodation itself is beautiful. A 3 bed detached villa with a great pool. There are steps in for the kids and the pool area is surrounded by grass. Inside there is a main room with kitchen, dining and living areas. Off this are 2 bedrooms which are generously proportioned and both en suite. There is also a sun room which is fantastic. The full width of the property is lined by movable glass panels which give you the feeling you are sitting outside whatever the weather. The kitchen is small but perfectly functional and there is a gas barbecue outside. Additionally there is a utility room with laundry facilities and a second fridge freezer which we used for big bottles of water. There is also an additional toilet off the main room. The master bedroom is technically detached although you can reach it via a walkway from the main room. Again this is generous in size and en suite. All bedrooms open directly to the garden but the master opens on to the pool area. The property is in great condition and was spotlessly clean throughout. The situation, up a mountain, may be challenging to reach but affords spectacular views over the costa del Sol, down to the Rock of Gibraltar and on over the med to North Africa. The view is initially hard to believe it is so beautiful. It can be enjoyed from the pool and garden, the sun room or the master bedroom. In fact all views are spectacular form this vantage point, whichever way you look. Nothing is walkable unless you are particularly motivated! I believe there are lots of walks close by and the locals seem keen on cycling up the mountain roads but, particularly with kids, you should plan on taking your car wherever you go. The local town is Casares which has a few shops, a castle and church. There is a town square with cafes and a play area for children round the corner. A 15-20 min drive takes you to the coast where there are lots of beaches and supermarkets. There is also obviously access to the nightlife in the area, although if that is what you want to do I doubt this villa is ideal for your holiday. There are a variety of eateries around. The Forge is closest and was a great place to eat. Less formal was Venta Victoria, about 2 minutes in the car. Again great food and good prices, particularly if you are used to UK pricing! The service provided by the travel company was excellent. Good communication, a great welcome document which was extremely useful and further useful documents on arrival. We met the representative at a local restaurant to pick up keys and be shown around the property. I would highly recommend their service. In summary this is not a good place if you want to walk to bars or enjoy the nightlife at the coast. However, if you are looking for a warm and quiet villa with a lovely pool and breathtaking views you would be hard pushed to find one better.
